Workshop Description
In this weekend workshop students will learn the principal rules of mosaic art. The class will begin by looking at the different kinds of shapes of tesserae in order to understand how these can be organized into andamenti and compositions. Next students will examine how different time periods, from ancient to modern, different tesserae materials and shapes have been used to obtain different visual effects. The ability to draw the basic layout of tesserae within a mosaic is the cornerstone of successful mosaic-making, and is applicable at any stage of one’s experience. Each evening, a different drawing exercise will be completed to reinforce the techniques covered; these drawings will constitute a porfolio and will remain the property of the participants. No actual mosaics will be made during this course. $225
