Live Mosaic Event to Take Place at SOFA Chicago 2011, November 4-6

Unique collaboration will make it possible to offer audience a glimpse into the mosaic art creation experience.

CHICAGO, IL, (October 1, 2011)-The Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA) is pleased to announce a unique collaboration between SOFA, SAMA, the Corning Museum of Glass, Smalti.com, and the Chicago Mosaic School that will provide fair goers the experience of observing the process of creating a mosaic. Led by artist Kim Wozniak, a group of international mosaicists will come together in Chicago to create the work over the course of this year’s show. Event attendees will be able to observe the art take shape; talk to the artists; learn about mosaic art; and gain an appreciation for the contemporary developments of this ancient art form. The Corning Museum of Glass, demonstrating hot glass working techniques at SOFA, will provide specially created art glass rondels for use in the mosaic during the show.

Austin, TX, February 2, 2011- The PeopleFund of Austin, Texas is this year’s recipient of a large scale mosaic mural that will be created by volunteer SAMA artists during the Society’s annual American Mosaic Summit. This year’s Summit, to be held February 16-21 in Austin will result in a beautiful work of art that will be donated to this worthy local Austin non-profit organization to adorn the exterior of their new facility. The Marathon will take place at the Hyatt Regency Austin on Wednesday and Thursday, February 16th & 17th.

Mosaic art, one of the world’s oldest art forms, is experiencing a major revitalization. Fine artists around the world are discovering the unrivaled and compelling magnificence of the art form and materials in achieving their artistic vision. The Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA) and the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center (MACC) in Austin, Texas present “Mosaic Arts International”, a juried exhibition that explores the very best of this revitalization. MAI will premier on February 18th and remain on view through March 30th, 2011.

The Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA) urges you to make plans now to discover all that is contemporary, compelling, and breathtakingly beautiful at Mosaic Arts International 2010, its annual juried exhibition of members’ outstanding work. This year’s MAI exhibition will take place in Chicago during March and April, to coincide with American Mosaic Summit, SAMA’s yearly conference in the same city. The Smith Museum of Stained Glass at Navy Pier will host the show, and over 80,000 visitors are expected to attend during its run, March 1-April 30.
