|Using a Dimensional Substrate|
|Workshop Date (s)|
|Falmouth, Cape Cod|
|Learn the techniques of building layers and adding dynamic movement to your art. The goal of this workshop is to allow for experimentation of several techniques that add ‘topography’ to your 2-D substrate. We will work with fiberglass mesh, shaping of metal mesh and layering thinset or cement that will expand your work in amazing directions for personal or professional projects: Open to all levels; experience with thin-set is helpful. Students will complete several small practice projects allowing participants to comprehend the methods taught here. We will work on multiple methods simultaneously. You will learn which method to use for just the right amount of dimension. This workshop is focused on substrate, not the mosaic itself. Deb has been creating dimensional substrates for her clients for years. The workshop will include lecture and a power-point presentation, demo and hands on as well as some individual attention. Topics will include adding hanging hardware to dimensional works, materials needed for each type of substrate and how much tesserae to use. At the end of the class there will be a critique to discuss good technique as well as those that could stand some improvement. Minimum 8 students.
